Sindh govt earmarks Rs 413b for development

Sindh Minister for Information Sharjeel Inam Memon, while talking to a group of journalists here in his office on Tuesday, said the provincial government has allocated Rs 413.5 billion for carrying out development works in the province. He said this allocation included Rs 318 billion under Annual Development Programme (ADP), Rs 30.5 billion of Foreign Project Assistance and Rs 65 billion for the districts. “This is an unprecedented step taken by the present government,” an official statement quoted the minister as saying. He said a huge amount of Rs 38.9 billion had been earmarked for the construction of new roads and repairing of the existing ones. Rs. 32.9 billion had been allocated for special packages for different districts of the province, the Sindh information minister added. He further said that Rs 44 billion had been earmarked for special projects under which mega schemes of district Karachi would be financed. Memon also said that Rs 22.9 billon was allocated for the education sector, while the health sector received Rs 18.9 billion. Furthermore, the Sindh information minister said that Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs) and and Members of National Assembly (MNAs) had been given Rs 22.4 billion for development schemes initiated in their constituencies to facilitate the public. He said that Physical Planning and Housing had received Rs 17.3 billion and the coal development sector got Rs 10.3 billion.
