President Asif Zardari on Tuesday inaugurated Guzara Allowance and Sindh Arms Licence Revalidation, the Sindh government’s projects undertaken by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
Guzara Allowance will be given through Benazir Muawanat Card, initially 85,000 Zakat beneficiaries in Sindh will benefit from this programme.
NADRA, in collaboration with Sindh’s Ushr and Zakat Department, has developed this programme to facilitate the beneficiaries with a view to streamline country’s Zakat disbursement system through a secure biometric and easy disbursement mechanism through e-sahulat.
Speaking on the occasion, President Zardari said it was a historic occasion and very much in line with the needs of time. He said NADRA had introduced technology at the grassroots with a view to facilitate common people, especially those living in densely populated and rural areas. The president praised NADRA’s multitasking performance in addition to the citizen’s registration thus facilitating masses through state-of-the-art e-solutions for good governance in the country.
The president said, “This system will not only bring transparency in Guzara Allowance disbursement through Benazir Muawanat Card by eliminating the ghost beneficiaries but also bring efficiency in the management of funds. We realize that the end goal of running a transparent government is the delivery of services to the people and that the citizens are able to work in an economy that will afford them food, shelter, education and employment. Today, by facilitating Guzara Allowance beneficiary with efficient services we are one step closer to that goal.”
The president said “Technology is playing a central role in our lives, society and economic growth. The methods and techniques used in Guzara Allowance address several dimensions of problems in social inequities and economic inefficiencies. This effort will certainly strengthen the institution in the management of the charitable funds. I am delighted that the Zakat initiative took less than a year from the concept level to actual delivery.”
Presenting main features of the projects, NADRA Chairman Tariq Malik said that e-sahulat is a people-friendly system which has introduced online transactions for people. He said with the introduction of IT-based system in Zakat disbursement, the chance of pilferage and corruption is gone with the wind. He praised the initiative of the Sindh government, their understanding and faith in NADRA technology solutions.
