President decides to consult PM, cabinet over NAB chief’s letter

The presidency has decided to take up the letter written by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Fasih Bokhari with Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and the federal cabinet for consultation.
In his letter written to the president, Bokhari had directly accused the members of the superior judiciary of trying to influence the outcomes of the upcoming general elections.
Sources told Online that the presidency “is gravely concerned” over the NAB chief’s reference to “pre-poll rigging”. Sources said the president was considering it necessary to consult the cabinet over this charge.
Source said the NAB chief did not mention any clause of NAB Ordinance through which the president’s attention could be drawn. As the president handed over his administrative powers to the parliament under 18th Amendment, certain clauses of the NAB Ordinance cannot be implemented.
Sources further said that the president contacts the cabinet under Article 48 under which he has the authority to refer any matter to cabinet for review.
