The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has jacked up power tariff by Rs 1.33 per unit. The enhancement in tariff has been approved by NEPRA under the head of fuel adjustment surcharge (FAS) and this increase will apply to the month of December 2012 after the case in this respect is decided by Islamabad High Court (IHC). All power distribution companies, except the Karachi Electricity Supply Company, had filed application with NEPRA seeking enhancement in power tariff on the plea that they had to bear several expenses under monthly fuel adjustment surcharge. After conducting the hearing of the plea, NEPRA accorded approval to the increase in tariff by Rs 1.33 per unit under monthly fuel adjustment surcharge. The enhanced tariff will be applicable only for the month of December 2012. A case regarding fuel adjustment charges is already pending hearing with the IHC, therefore, the increased tariff will take effect after the decision of the court.
