Moderate rains likely next month: Met Office

Light to moderate rains are likely to start in the beginning of next month in upper parts of the country.
According to met office, weather will remain cold and dry during next 24 hours in most parts of the country while light to moderate rains are expected at the beginning of the next month.
Currently, the country is facing cold and dry weather especially all districts of Gilgit Baltistan, Skardu, Astore, Ghazar, and Hunza
The citizens complained that the administration was not taking any measures for getting the roads cleared of the snow for free flow of traffic, which resulted in the scarcity of food items and other items of daily use.
Chief Meteorologist Dr Ghulam Rasool said that moderate rains would hit upper parts of the country in next month. Light to moderate rains are likely to start in the beginning of the month, especially between February 3rd and 4th in Upper Punjab, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir.
The westerly weather system will approach Balochistan on January 31 (Thursday) and extend to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab in the next few days and will bring rain. He said January remained cold and dry which was good for the crops including wheat, sugarcane, corn, sunflower as it stopped the growth of these crops, giving these a sufficient time to spread roots and stems and increase production. “The consistent cold and dry spell stops the growth of the crops and the plants start spreading their roots,” Dr Ghulam Rasool said. “The wheat crop is at the stage of growing spikes when the crop requirs sufficient rain for growth and the rainy days of February will be blessing for the growth of the crops especially wheat,” he added.
Rasool said moderate snowfall was likely at the hilly areas in the next month. According to the Met Office, the weather would remain cold and dry in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Sindh, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
