Hilal Khan, an 8 year old patient of Thalassemia, from Allai in district Battgram, requires an amount of Rs 1.5 million for a marrow transplant to save his life, as his parents are too poor to pay for his treatment. Hilal has had to have blood transfusions after every 20 days ever since he was born, and developed a spleen infection that was operated on in 2010. Regular transfusions could lead to a liver malfunction and also damage the child’s heart. Rawalpindi Combined Military Hospital (CMH) doctors have suggested a bone marrow transplant that would cost Rs 1.5 million. Hilal’s family has been facing a terrible dilemma as they can not afford to pay for the expensive surgery.
