A sub-committee of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet Division on Monday asked the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to evacuate the Afghan Basti in Sector I-11 otherwise the body would have to move the court. The committee met at the Parliament House under the chairmanship of Hameedullah Jan Afridi. Cabinet Special Secretary Shahidullah Baig, Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, CDA officials and Islamabad police officials were present at the meeting. Afridi said that low-salaried employees had been allotted plots in the residential sector and had been awaiting possession of their property. He said the CDA should immediately evacuate the land from the clutches of land grabbers. He added that legal action would be recommended against any officer accused of negligence in this regard. Committee members said the body would monitor the operation in the sector. The meeting was informed that certain elements had been hindering the operation and these land grabbers also comprised drug peddlers and those without official registration. A Ministry of States and Frontier Regions member apprised the committee that the Afghan Basti consisted of a few Afghan refugees who could be shifted elsewhere, however a lot of people had been living there illegally. The committee members said the evacuation should be carried according to the set schedule and timely measures should be taken to improve administrative functioning.

  1. Does the committee know about the residence of D-12 who have no water no gas to cook and no proper roads and the people living there donot see anything being done about it as the CDA officials are fighting over the cuts in commissions and instigating the nearby villagers to stop development work to escalate the project worth and thereby helping the contractors to charge more and have more commissions
