The civil court has acquitted Lal Masjid Khateeb Maulana Abdul Aziz and his spouse Umme Hasaan, along with four other accused in a case regarding the abduction of Islamabad police personnel. The court hearing had resumed on Monday, presided by Senior Civil Judge Sheikh Muhammad Sohail. All the accused including Maulana Abdul Aziz, Umme Hasaan, Maulana Abdul Basir and Maulana Muhmmad Afzal had been present in the court along with their counsel Wajih Ullah Khan. Raja Faisal Ghani and Inspector Arshad Mehmood had appeared in court on behalf of the Capital Territory Police. The verdict stated that the court had found discrepancy in the witnesses’ testimonies, while the police had failed to produce any object that had been snatched from the police at the time of abduction including a police jeep and a wireless set. The prosecutors had been unable to prove the accused guilty of these crimes and the court acquitted the accused of all charges. Wajih said the case had been pending in courts for five years and the prosecutors had been unable to prove his clients’ guilt. “We are thankful to the independent judiciary due to which Maulana Abdul Aziz and his cohorts have received justice”, he added.
