KMC seeks help of UCs to improve recovery

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Chief Officer Matanat Ali Khan has directed Municipal Utility Charges Department to improve recovery condition of utility charges with the collaboration of 178 Union Councils (UCs) of the city.
The UCs which would show better performance for recovery would be provided with financial benefits, Matanat informed.
Matanat said this while addressing a meeting called on the issue of recovery of utility charges, and was attended by secretaries of all UCs, Utility Charges Senior Director Tahir Durrani, Local Government Karachi Assistant Director Qamar Shiakh and other officers concerned.
The KMC chief officer said that they were availing current resources and had to improve their performance in provision of municipal facilities to citizens which would produce positive results in the future.
He said if all UCs actively worked for recovery of utility charges, recovery condition on yearly basis would improve greatly.
He further said that KMC needed resources for providing various services in the city.
He also said that they needed to improve the existing facilities after which citizens could easily pay their utility bills.
Furthermore, he directed all UC secretaries to maintain direct contact with residents and form committees on neighbourhood level to resolve their complaints.
On this occasion, Qamar Shaikh said that recommendations were under consideration for recovery of utility charges and in this regard they would fully cooperate with Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to improve the overall recovery condition of utility charges.
