Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Liaqat Baloch said on Monday the PPP and its allies were trying to befool the masses by initiating a debate regarding the formation of new provinces to hide their failures during their five year rule. He said the creation of new administrative units were a public demand which was not given due consideration at the time of the 18th and the 20th constitutional amendments. “The issue required extensive consultation among the political parties, besides evolving consensus in the national and provincial assemblies, which was the responsibility of the federal and provincial governments,” the statement said. The JI leader said the country was at the threshold of elections and the rulers had to answer to the electorate for their five year performance. “The rulers know that during their five year rule, the masses had suffered badly due to lawlessness, corruption, price hike, unemployment and the energy crisis had crippled the country’s economy and agriculture,” he said.
Baloch said instead of addressing these issues, the rulers were trying to make a demand for new provinces which was gravely impracticable.
