Fresh spate of violence claims six more lives

Atleast six persons were killed including a two year-old child and the workers of Sunni Tehrik in the fresh wave of violence that has erupted in the metropolis on Monday.
According to details, some unknown armed motorcyclists opened indiscriminate firing on three persons, as a result of which they received critical injuries.
On receiving information, police and rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the injured persons to a hospital for medical aid. The injured persons, namely Farhan and Riaz, later succumbed to their injuries while the injured Kamran was under treatment in a local hospital until the filing of this report. Police claimed that the deceased were residents of Golimar area and were going to their office when unknown motorcyclists attacked them.
In another incident, some unknown armed miscreants opened fired on and killed 24-year-old Khalid in the area of new Karachi sector 11/J. The deceased was a worker of the Sunni Tehrik. Meanwhile, a two year -old child named Inshal sustained severe injuries due to bullet wounds. Later, they were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where the child succumbed to her injuries.
Later, a member of the Sunni Tehrik, namely Sarwat Ijaz Qadri, condemned the target-killing incident and called an emergency meeting to chalk out a comprehensive security plan in the wake of escalating violence in the city.
In yet another incident, 30-year-old Hasan was shot dead by unknown armed men. It was later found out that the deceased used to earn livelihood by driving a truck. In addition to this, one more man was shot dead in Gulistan Johar at Samama Shopping Centre and his identification could not be ascertained until the filing of this report.

Traders’ death: Shops to remain closed today

The city’s traders announced to keep their businesses closed on Monday in protest against murder of their senior leader Muhammad Irfan, who died yesterday after getting injured in a gun attack. Muhammad Irfan, a trader and former president of Karachi Electronic Dealers Association (KEDA), succumbed to his injuries in a local hospital yesterday after he was shot by unknown assailants on Thursday. All electronics markets in the city, including Saddar Market and Regal Chowk markets, would remain closed in protest against the attack, KEDA President Muhammad Idrees Memon said. Muhammad Irfan’s funeral prayer was offered in North Nazimabad’s Tayba Mosque. Meanwhile, non-stop violence continued abated in the financial capital of the country when at least two more persons were killed and another was injured on Monday morning in a targeted killing incident in the area of Tariq Road, police officials said. According to local police, the injured and the deceased could not be identified as yet. The bodies and the injured person were later shifted to Jinnah Hospital. According to eyewitnesses, the deceased were sitting in their car when some unidentified miscreants gunned them down and fled the scene.
