The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has invited the attention of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), ministry of industries, to the importance of primary sector of the economy which is backwards and needs to be modernised to improve yield per acre in farming, bigger scope in fishing and enhanced excavations in mining and above all achieving bench mark in these areas of natural resources. The SMEDA needs to focus on the primary sector which is the larger sector and the back forte of the economy. President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said SMEDA needs to focus on the SMEs involved in the primary sector of the economy to improve the entire supply chain by making direct use of natural resources in agriculture, fishing and mining. This will positively support the secondary sector producing manufactured and other processed goods and the tertiary sector producing services. According to foreign economist in Pakistan the primary sector is the base and needs modernization to begin with and it will reflect on the secondary sector by supplying higher standard of produce. They are keen that the primary sector is strengthened first and have offered help to Pakistan to improve farming of dates, mangoes, oranges, peaches, apples, grapes and orchards scientifically. UNISAME acknowledges the help and support of USAID and United Nations Development Projects (UNDP) in these areas which has brought about remarkable changes.
