Munir of Pakistan secures Asian Golf Tour slot

Muhammed Munir, the number two ranked golf professional of the country, added another significant milestone in Pakistan’s history books by becoming the first Pakistani to graduate from the Asian Golf Tour Qualifying School after four rounds of competitive golf at Springfield Royal Country Club Golf Course, Hua Hin, Thailand, that concluded yesterday.
The Qualifying School included 251 participating golf professionals from all over the world, who were seeking a place amongst the forty top qualifiers in the final four rounds of golf. The Qualifying matches were held at two golf courses in Thailand and while 211 champions failed to qualify, Munir with rounds of 72,70,66 and 74 and an aggregate of 282,four under par found himself successful and an elevated one, his golfing talent manifesting itself through this success oriented performance.
Speaking on the phone Munir said: “I am very relieved and feel really good. It has been a long wait and I am grateful to Taimur Hassan of Pakistan Golf Federation who backed me in this endurance packed effort”. As for Taimur Hassan, Secretary, Pakistan Golf Federation, he felt upbeat about Munir’s chances in the Asian Golf Tours chances during 2013.”Hopefully”, he said: “Pakistan’s golf will be in the international news regularly”.
Three years back Munir created history when he steered his country into their first World Cup of Golf appearance in the Omega Mission Hills World Cup in 2009.Now this is another supplement that the national golf scene needed.
While Munir is the only qualifier from Pakistan, there is one qualifier from India and the others are from Australia, United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Sweden, Spain, Germany, Thailand, Taipei and China.
Munir will be travelling to Dubai to participate in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic to be held at the Emirates Golf Club from 30th January to 2nd February.
