CM approves varsity status for DCET

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has approved the summery of the university status for Dawood College of Engineering and Technology (DCET), Karachi.
The summery was moved to the CM Sindh for approval on November 1, 2011, which had now been approved by the chief executive of the province on the last Friday. However, the bill for the passage of act will be presented in the coming session of the Sindh Assembly.
Dawood College had been devolved to the Sindh Government under the 18th Amendment vide government of Pakistan’s notification dated April 5, 2011.
The summery for the university status for Dawood College was moved to the CM Sindh by the then secretary education Sindh Muhammad Siddique Memon.
It was said in the summery that Dawood College of Engineering and Technology was a degree-awarding institution and was granted the charter through the Senate Secretariat on December 11, 2010. Therefore, the chief minister of Sindh was requested to give it a university status. Hence after two years, the Sindh chief minister gave its approval on last Friday. Now the DCET would be second public sector engineering university of the city after NED.
Bad governance breeds corruption: Shaharyar Mahar: Member Provincial Assembly Shaharyar Khan Mahar has said it was prime responsibly of the government to provide protection, health and education facilities to people but due to bad governance of the present rulers people were deprived of their fundamental rights.
He said this here on the occasion of handing over ambulance vans to DHO Shikarpur on Saturday evening.
He said the rulers had totally failed to revamp healthcare and education services in Sindh province. He said due to negligence of police the whole province was in the grip of lawlessness. He said every day innocent people were being killed by criminals but the rulers were unmoved.
He said he had approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan with request to take notice of worsening law and order in Shikarpur district and the honourable court was pleased to convert his letter into a writ petition.
Mahar further said the government funds were being gulped up by corrupt elements and people were not being benefited from the development budget.
He urged people of Sindh to cast their votes for honest, trustworthy and able candidates in coming general election in the larger interest of Sindh and reject the corrupt, selfish and opportunist politicians.
Later MPA Shaharyar Mahar handed over the keys of seven ambulances purchased from his development fund to district health officer Shikarpur Dr Khursheed Ahmed Qazi for seven health centres: Wazirabad, Rustam, Chak, Abdoo, Ruk, Jahangr Khan Thaheem and Dakhan health centres.
KU convocation: Karachi University will hold convocation 2012 at its Valika Ground on Wednesday, January 30.
Chancellor and Sindh Governor Dr Isshratul Ibad Khan will preside over the event.
