India is our guru and we are your chelas: Dalai Lama

After a quiet morning with sparse crowd, the Diggi Palace was suddenly overrun with visitors aching to catch a glimpse of the festival guest whose name was announced just a week ago – the Dalai Lama. “India is our guru,” the Nobel Peace prize winner told the appreciative crowd, “and we are your chelas. All the knowledge that has come to us has come from India.”In a meandering conversation that covered Buddhism’s relation to science, his understanding of corruption and secularism, the Tibetan leader insisted that – even at 77 – he is still discovering the world. “I try to learn whatever I can,” the Lama said, in conversation with British novelist Pico Iyer. “I still consider myself a student,” he added.After the session, he answered questions about the nature of Indian society, talking in particular about the gang rape incident that has brought young Indians to the streets.

      • Hey, I wasn't talking muslim-on-muslim attacks; we are masters of that (see Pakistan, Libya, Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, etc., etc., etc……) !!! 🙂

      • sorry I made mistake by writing word Muslims.Ghaznvi was known to kill Hindus of somanat.He killed those Muslims who tried to stand against his army.

        • Feel sorry for yourself. Your own backyard is on fire but you enjoy watching the fireworks in the neighbour's yard. Infact all your neighbours are doing well. They will even becomes worlds largest economies by 2030. I guess you will be in the dumps. With US & IMF aid evaporating, you are living on remittances from NRP's. You dont even have any gold reserves. Wake up and see that you are falling in grave that you dug for others. Feel sorry for yourself.

          • Funny man! Well we enjoy fireworks everywhere and this particular was not in our own backyard so we certainly couldn't make it our own! Yes,they might become SECOND largest economic power — you seem to forget China — but they'll still have most of their citizenery going hungry so I DON'T call it an "achievement" to be proud of. It is TOTALLY MEANINGLESS!! As far as U.S. and IMF aid "evaporating" is concerned, I'd say you haven't a clue about both; it would be a BLESSING if ALL AID evaporates as it only works as shackles on our progress and only helps enrich corrupt military, political and bureaucratic forces. I say GOOD RIDDANCE!!! Yeah we have no gold reserves but enough gold in the ground and in form of jewelry 😛 BTW: Even U.S. has no gold reserves (,"We have fifteen billion dollars in gold in our treasury, we don't own an ounce!" — Ronald Reagan during whose time the last FED audit was done), so there! 😛 Yes we are falling into a grave but it is because of people like you who hate their country and religion and survive well under this corrupt system because they are it's beneficiaries…..I bet you are one of those who agrees "But we must not derail this system";-)

        • Nazia, let's not just pick on Ghaznvi — he was only one of many; BTW: The same is happening today, just happens that the "ghaznvis" are christians (See Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Sudan, Mali,….we don't own thepatent on "might is right" 😉
