The Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim has assured the forthcoming elections will be held free‚ fair‚ and transparent.
Talking to VOA‚ he said the Election Commission of Pakistan is authoritative and independent institution enjoying sufficient constitutional powers.
He clarified that no demand has been made for extra powers to the Commission like that of the Indian election commission.
He said the Election Commission along with caretaker prime minister will take steps to ensure that the government machinery is not used by any political party in the general elections likely to take place in May and the commission has started planning in this regard.
