The Balochistan Assembly members on Thursday expressed their anger against the federal government for imposition of governor’s rule in the province.
The members also voiced against the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for initiating corruption cases against them.
Only a few lawmakers, mostly from the Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam-Fazl, attended the session chaired by Speaker Matiullah Agha. Although the agenda of the session was to debate recommendations of the Islamic Ideological Council, but the members vented their anger against the federal government and NAB.
“Was the Balochistan governor not a NAB-affectee and in jail and was free after paying pre-bargaining amount by an Arab prince, NAB can intermediate a Sardar or a Nawab, but not the members of Jamiat Ulema Islam,” said ex-JUI-F minister Sarwar Nadeem Musakhel. He said further that NAB kept its mum during the past five years, but suddenly sprung up in action and “now we were considered in its eye as dacoits and thieves”.
Another former minister Syed Ehsan Shah of Balochistan National Party (Awami) while terming Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf as “Raja Rental” said that he was facing corruption charges of Rs 520 billion and who gave him the mandate to impose governor’s rule in Balochistan by dismissing an elected government. He said that the NAB chairman had admitted that Punjab had a 65 percent of share in the country’s corruption, but nobody spoke against it because a majority of NAB officers belonged to Punjab province. “What is happening in Balochistan is amounted to push the province in deep ravine,” he warned.
Former JUI-F minister Ainullah Shams said that NAB was playing in the hands of ‘someone’ and all corruption charges were based on lies.
Abdul Wasay, the former senior minister, protested against non-provision of security to them and said Pakistan was created in the name of Islam, but during 60 years no step was taken to implement the recommendations of the Islamic Ideological Council.
The House formed a committee under the chairmanship of Wasay to evolve a strategy for implementation of IIC recommendations. The chair also directed assembly secretary to write a letter to the Interior Ministry that the Balochistan chief secretary did not pay heed to them.
