Residents decry overcharging by transporters

Commuters have complained that public transporters have been charging inflated fares on route 1 in the federal capital. They added that the authorities had paid no attention to this unfair practice.
Commuters said the conductors and drivers would start misbehaving if passengers objected to paying the overcharged amount. They said public transport between Rawalpindi and Islamabad had increased fares, while the Rawalpindi Transport Authority has raised rates from Rs 13 to Rs 15. Transporters charged the same fare in Islamabad, despite the specified stop-to-stop rate of Rs 13. Rashid Minhas, a resident of Sector G-8/4, said, “I travel to Ayub Chowk on route 1 everyday, conductors have started overcharging and showed me the rate list issued by the Rawalpindi Transport Authority (RTA).” He said he had resisted paying the additional amount as rates assigned in Rawalpindi did not apply in Islamabad.
Commuters have requested the authorities to take note of the situation and ensure the implementation of correct fares on all routes.
