A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Wednesday requesting it to prevent Admiral (r) Fasih Bokhari from working as chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB. The petition, filed in the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry, argued that in spite of rampant corruption in the country, the NAB chairman had failed to take necessary action.
Petitioner Shumail Paracha added that Bokhari was in fact working to cover up the corruption and hence should be prevented from working as chairman of the bureau. The petition comes nearly a week after Kamran Faisal, an officer of the NAB investigating the rental power projects (RPP) scam, was found dead in his room under mysterious circumstances. Moreover, in 2012, the Supreme Court had issued a show cause notice to Bokhari seeking an explanation why he should not be arraigned under contempt charges for not implementing its ruling in the RPP case.
