Nadra, State Life ink accord to provide monetary cover

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) in collaboration with State Life Corporation has launched Accidental Death Insurance that offers monetary cover to every new Smart National Identity Card (SNIC) holder for the first two years across the country, including the Northern Areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. NADRA Chairman Tariq Malik and State Life Insurance Corporation Chairman Aziz Siddiqui, signed an agreement in this regard on Wednesday here at the NADRA headquarters.
Speaking on the occasion The NADRA chairman said that NADRA had issued over 92.8 million identity cards to adult population of Pakistan. Being the custodian of national identification in Pakistan, NADRA had envisaged an Accidental Death Insurance programme which would help the government to promote socio-economic culture and to reach out to the poor population of the country.
Tariq said, “Accidental Death Insurance through SNIC is a scheme designed to register the applicants for death insurance. The holder of SNIC will automatically be registered for the accidental death insurance of Rs 100,000 for a period of the first two years after the issuance of the card. The applicant can nominate their nominee, at the registration of SNIC, who will collect the insurance amount in case of any mishap.” Furthermore, Tariq said that upon accidental death of any SNIC holder, the said benefit derived from the scheme would be paid by State Life to NADRA for onward submission to a person nominated by the original card holder. With minimum premium that NADRA paid to State Life on behalf of the citizens, the move would be beneficial for the company on the one hand and would provide security to the citizens on the other hand, he added.
Moreover, the NADRA chairman said that the SNIC had allowed the government to reach out to the citizens of Pakistan with the help of state of the art technology and modern biometric facilities, a trend that was previously considered impossible. One of the major benefits of this technology, which was fast becoming the authentication standard around the globe, was its ability to store data within a microchip and the robustness to include both public and private sector services. With the recent introduction of the SNIC, the entire mechanism had been upgraded to whole new level. A NADRA spokeswoman in a press statement added that in the event of accidental death of a SNIC holder, his/her nominee would be sent to the NADRA for lodging/reporting the rightful claim under the scheme with State Life within two years of any incident of accidental death to the designated office of State Life for the completion of forms and other documentation.
She said that State Life would ensure prompt processing of claims within thirty working days after receiving the receipt of the complete documents in all respects by the designated G&P Zone of State Life.
