Repeated allegations from the legislators against allegedly corrupt officers of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) have been denied by a well-placed official source with a submission that the parliamentarians should always come up with solid evidences.
The source told Online in a special discussion that role of HEC was like a post office and it received funding from the government in terms of recurring and development funding. He said that HEC spent this money on its multiple projects.
He added that more than 15,000 scholarships awards had been issued to the students through National Scholarship Management Committee (NSMC), which was constituted by the prime minister.
The source stated that the funding from the government always audited by the government’s concerned department so there was no chance of corruption unless it was under the auspice of the government.
“If the legislators have any proof against the alleged officials they should bring it up on a proper forum,” he added.
He said that the NSMC always selected students for scholarship awards on merit. Earlier, the allegations were raised by the legislators on floor of the National Assembly while replying to a calling attention notice about irregularities in the HEC.
