A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Wednesday challenging the written deal signed by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and Allama Tahirul Qadri regarding termination of the long march on Jan 17.

The petition, filed by Shahid Orakzai, argued that the pact was against the national sovereignty as it was signed with a foreign national.

It said the federation has exceeded its administrative jurisdiction through this agreement. The federation, it continued, has no authority to make any such deal without the consent of the President.

According to the applicant, time for scrutiny of candidates under Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution was raised at the demand of one party. This step is tantamount to discrimination for other parties, it added.

  1. Qadri was launched by Army & Judiciary to derail democracy. Because all political parties in Government & Opposition united against him, the nefarious plans of our enemies failed. The agreement was only meant to provide Qadri with a face saving passage. Nothing more. The nation now must brace for more attacks from the same enemies and if our politicians show the same resolve, perhaps, one day we can achieve civilian supremacy. However, we mus bear in mind. The reason that Nawaz Sharif also rallied round to repulse this conspiracy is that elections are round the corner which he expects to win. Otherwise, we may have seen him standing with Army & Judiciary like in case of the farce called Memogate.

  2. Qadri has done something great for this country and has given new direction to politics and have sealed fate of present lot of politicians. Let us get over the habit of challenging every decision of the government. ILM declaration is victory of oppressed people. Let us not blame Army and judiciary. Army does not require crutches of any body if it decides to intervene, since they have taken off themselves from politics it is unfair to talk about them
