Karachi Commissioner Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi has hailed the step taken by the government to regularise over a 100,000 Lady Health Workers (LHWs) in the country. The approval in this regard had been accorded by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf. The commissioner was optimistic that the regularisation of the LHWs would play a key role in the eradication of polio in the country. He hoped that the LHWs would now perform their duty with more vigour and commitment as their ranks have swelled up after the government’s decision. Zaidi said that regularisation of the service was a long standing demand of the LHWs belonging to all parts of the country. He stated that this decision was taken by the government keeping in view the public interest. The commissioner ordered the officials concerned to give full priority to the anti-polio drive being initiated in the country and to ensure that every child up to five tears should be administered polio drops. This task should be performed as a national duty, he further stressed.
