HEC gets new executive director

The governing board of Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Sunday unanimously appointed Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmed as the new Executive Director, in accordance with the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The commission was directed by the SCP to appoint of new Executive Director (ED) within 30 days.
In case Ahmed refuses the job, the offer would be made to other next preferential candidate in the order of merit as recommended by the selection board, a source of the commission said.
The decision was taken at a special meeting of HEC board held on Sunday at the HEC head office in Islamabad.
The meeting was attended by all the members of the commission, including two federal secretaries and representatives of provincial governments.
The meeting was chaired by HEC Chairman Dr Javaid R Leghari.
Earlier on Saturday, interviews for the slot of the new executive director were conducted by the selection board dully approved by HEC governing board (commission).
All the selection board members attended the meeting. The selection board was also chaired by Dr Javaid R Leghari.
The selection board had short-listed three candidates and recommended their names to the commission for appointment of HEC Executive Director. Speaking at the occasion, Dr Javaid R Leghari thanked the board members for assisting him in the implementation of historic a decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and making the selection process transparent.
He said the compliance report would be submitted to the Supreme Court accordingly. The commission members hoped that with the appointment of a new permanent executive director, HEC would continue to contribute to the development of education in the country.
