Around six people including a child were killed in a fire that erupted in a plaza on Abbot Road, near Lakshmi Chowk, on Sunday while 43 victims were also rescued from the building, officials reported.
The fire that had erupted in a plaza on Lakshmi Chowk spread quickly to four adjacent buildings.
Rescue and fire teams had rushed to the site and managed to control the fire after several hours and rescued 43 people who had been trapped in these buildings. Fire fighters and rescue teams were also called in from other parts of the city.
Around six persons including a child were killed in the fire. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment where the condition of four victims was reported to be critical.
Rescue officials claimed the fire had been caused by short-circuiting.
