Sindh Minister for Revenue Jam Mehtab Hussain said that Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) has strong roots among the masses and anti-government meetings can cause no damage to the party’s popularity. Talking to a delegation of people belonging to different walks of life at his office, the minister said that freedom of expression was the basic right of people, however, baseless allegations and foul language should be avoided at all costs. He said that opponents especially Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and smaller parties in Sindh could nominate their candidates for the upcoming polls, but still had no chance of defeating the PPP. “PPP philosophy is based on the principles of equity and democracy,” said the minister.
“Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto had laid their lives for democracy and for the party,” Mehtab added.
He further said despite all sorts of attempts to dismantle the party and its target its workers, the PPP stood united under the dynamic leadership of President Asif Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Zardari.
He reiterated that meetings and rallies were part of democratic culture, however, these should not disrupt the law and order situation. The minister also said that the PPP’s stance about Kalabagh dam was very clear and attempts to raise a dead issue was nothing less than an insult for public mandate, particularly of those belonging to the smaller provinces of the country.
