Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday that the long march had met its logical end by becoming an “allied march”. Talking to lawmakers from various districts, he said the long march itself had failed and innocent children, women and senior citizens were kept unnecessarily in extreme cold and rain.
Furthermore, he said that the plans of anti-democratic forces were foiled and an attempt to derail democracy was thwarted by democratic forces. The chief minister further said that the entire nation wanted to know what was achieved as a result of the long march. He added that millions of rupees had been wasted on the long march and the protagonist had walked away after securing a deal. Furthermore, he claimed a contradiction between the Tahirul Qadri’s words and actions. Moreover, Shahbaz said that Tahirul Qadri had decided to save his honor instead living up to his slogan “save the state.”
The chief minister said that Qadri was responsible for the illness of many women and children who had suffered during his long march while he remained in his cozy container.
He added that it was now apparent to everyone why “imported” elements could never successfully lead the nation as they were more concerned about themselves. Shahbaz said that change and revolutions could not happen by raising false slogans. Instead, he said, it was important for leaders to take practical steps to show their commitment to the people.
Moreover, Shahbaz said that real change in the country was only possible through the ballot and it was important to hold the elections on time. He stressed that a fresh mandate was essential to bring the nation out of serious crisis.
Shahbaz said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) believed in democracy, rule of law and predominance of the constitution. He said that the PML-N, under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, had always rendered sacrifices for safeguarding the constitution and democracy, and would do so in future as well.
