Dead men tell no tales

A National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigator who was part of the team that found the prime minister and 15 others guilty in the rental power projects case was “found dead” in his apartment in Federal Lodges on Friday.

Kamran Faisal, an investigation officer in the RPPs corruption case and whose team prepared a report that made the Supreme Court order the arrest of Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and 15 others, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the room.

The NAB official was part of Investigation Officer Asghar Khan’s team that is probing into the mega corruption scandal related to rental power projects, which also involves Prime Minister Ashraf.

The RPPs case involves nine firms accused of receiving more than Rs 22 billion as mobilisation advance from the Government of Pakistan to commission their projects, but most of them did not set up the plants and a few set them up after inordinate delays.

Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf is accused of receiving kickbacks in the project as then minister of water and power and the SC had ordered NAB to arrest him just two days ago.

Police said the real cause of the death would be ascertained after post mortem, however, sources said circumstantial evidence suggested Faisal committed suicide.

“The deceased probably used a chair and a table to reach the fan, as we found a chair having fallen down near the table below the ceiling fan,” a police official who visited the apartment said.

Sources in NAB told Pakistan Today that Faisal had been facing extreme pressure and stress and did not want to remain part of the investigation team to further the probe into the RPPs corruption case. He had also submitted a written request to the NAB DG for relieving him from the case.

On Friday noon, NAB Sub-Inspector Mumtaz Ali telephoned the Secretariat Police Station and informed them that one of the NAB investigators had committed suicide at Federal Lodges, the sources said.

They said the question that arose was that how come the SI came to know about the suicide.

Despite repeated attempts, NAB spokesman Zafar Iqbal could not be contacted for comments.

Upon receiving the information of the incident, a team of Secretariat Police rushed to the scene and found Faisal’s body hanging from the ceiling fan.

“We have sealed Faisal’s room and we will start proper investigation after getting over with medico-legal formalities,” said a police officer, who is part of the investigation team.

Police shifted the body to Poly Clinic where a board of doctors conducted over three-hour-long post mortem.

“We found a V mark on Faisal’s neck, which suggests the deceased committed suicide, however, we also got some samples of the body that would be sent to a forensic laboratory in Lahore to ascertain if the deceased was poisoned,” a senior doctor at Poly Clinic said, wishing not to be named.

The body was handed to the heirs later at night.

Kamran Faisal was appointed in NAB in 2006 and was posted in Quetta until May 2011.

In May 2011, he opted to join the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). However, Faisal returned to NAB in May 2012, where he continued to serve until his death, a press release issued by NAB said.

NAB Chairman Fasih Bokhari also visited the site of the incident and expressed grief over Faisal’s death.

The Supreme Court had on Thursday expressed anger over NAB’s inability to arrest all accused in the case and had dismissed NAB’s report as unsatisfactory.

It ordered NAB to report back with the case files on January 23, so that the court could itself point out evidence that could form the basis of a prosecution.

  1. kamran faisal was forced by the agencies to submit a bogus report in rental power case, which is taken back by NAB.Intellegence agencies have now killed him to put the blame on civilian government

  2. somebody seems to be eager to implicate raja pervaiz ashraf in rpp.supreme court semms to be hellbent on punishing raja, therefore a very deep conspiracy seems to be underway

  3. supreme court and agencies work hand in hand to destablise civilian governments, this is another example of it.

  4. NAB under this setup has become a Corruption Facilitation Bureau, with no room for honest investigators.

  5. Dead men tell no tails indeed! Just waiting to see Fasih Bokhari now appear before the SC and claim "Sorry, the files you requested were with Faisal and, gosh darn, we haven't a clue where he put 'em!"

(Funny to see the "conspiracy againt democracy" crowd active here. Suggestions of Raja Rental being a virgin? Priceless!!!)

    • It is so good to learn that there are good Pakistanis around and in numbers.Nota you have kicked the other people where it hurts. Keep it up and God bless you.

    • Nota, u have insight. 80 page report that Faisal prepared, taken back by the NAB, now missing, ( No laptop )Suicide ? There are torture marks on the back, & wire cut on the neck and wrist. ( 2 man job )May Allah forgive him. An other life snuffed

      • No surprise of course. Remember the official story stated that the room was locked from inside and no one could have gotten in. And according to Dunya News, they also changed the team doing the autopsy.

Another lie everyone is repeating is he was under pressure from the supreme court. How could he be when it was the SC that had just forced NAB to put him back on the case and appreciated his work (and it was NAB that admitted in court that they had LIED to him by telling him 'SC is not happy with your work'!!!)

    • 1) Raja Pervez Ashraf answered the courts questions in 2012 regarding the rental power plants. He never tried to leave the country, so why so much hurry to get him arrested while he is the PM ? Why not wait 2 months instead of shaming Pakistan again in the world by ordering the Prime Minister of Pakistan ????

2)These plants were never given a chance to provide the precious power desperately needed by the population because the courts blocked the installation.
However, the money that was invested in rental power plants was recovered since the installation and exploitation of the power plants could not be finished.

      3) As for buying ''expensive '' energy, it would have been recovered by less economical loss because the country could have function…

      • Oh you are hilarious!

1)Yes, Raja had appeared in supremem court but that was for contempt of court for refusing to write the letter to the Swiss authorities under the NRO case and NOT regarding the RPP cawse. This is a flat lie! Raja as PM and Zardari as President is ALREADY shaming Pakistan and their arrest would certainly do the opposite 🙂

        2) The bought-from-junkyard plants were given all the chance but they never produced a single watt of electricity. Also consider that Turkish floating plant that too, though in working condition, did not produce a single watt and took the money and ran and those monies too have never been recovered. And I do not trust NAB's word that other monies were either. The do deals where the crooks get to keep 50% of the take; that is what they call successful "recovery".

        3) It is a proven FACT that this electricity crisis is a manufactured one and after four years of lying we did not have enough capacity power plants, the government now fully admits we have more capacity than we require in the hottest months of summer even. The only reason we have load-shedding is because they are not providing money to the plants for fuel and keeping them off-line INTENTIONALLY (so they can sell scams like RPPs and the latest being "Wind Power" which is run by the same scammers….

  6. derail democracy???? is there even democracy in pakistan freaking zardari Mr 110% sold his country and you call it a civilian government shame on you guys. I hope all these thugs get beaten up by the poor in the streets of the cities across Pakistan.

  7. Bring your proves before accusing anyone. Pakistan does not need more gossiping.
    Only Allah knows what happened.

  8. "derail democracy" indeed is a funny argument. But don't forget they are ALL in it together screaminging the same; the 'free' media, the army, and the 'free' judiciary itself, the loudest cheerleader of this being the Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry himself. (Interesting too is the fact that at the same time they all agree nothing is working under it besides corruption)

  9. His family and friends have started pursuing his case. Now all depend on them and people's support for them now matters as it hardly comes in our weak society when next kins who are supposed to be consider weak by killers take stand against criminals .

  10. A cover-up is in full swing. What a surprise that the judge chosen to head the "judicial commission" to investigate this MURDER is none other than Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal (the cover-up specialist). Remember that previously he headed the Abbotabad commission and the Missing persons commission. And we have found out the truth about those, haven't we? (wink> (wink) 🙂

  11. The tug of war has been started between establishment and real working class of Pakistan. Now all has to gather their power to take stand against these white elephants of Pakistan.I am not sure but it was not raja rental but 4 Secretaries and 2 army officers who were against his report.let the time pass and it would be revealed only by his close mates that to whom he was being harassed.Raja rental just got his share from mega scam.

    • "Raja rental just got his share from mega scam"
Very true! Main culprits are still unnamed: Iqbal Z.Ahmed is the mastermind of this and the LPG scam (beneficiaries include the "honorable" Aitzaz Ahsan, Ex Punjab Gov Gen Khalid Maqbool, etc.) President Zardari of course is the main beneficiary…

  12. Just to complete the picture and add a bit of what has gone on since….

    1. A "Judicial body formed to probe Kamran Faisal's mysterious death" and no surprise it was headed by Judicail coverup artist "Justice" Javed Iqbal who did an excellent job covering up Missing Persons Case and Abbotabad US raid so it's conclusions were a foregone conclusion….("SUICIDE!!!")…The b@stard even had him exhumed to further disrespect him (it was only to fool the people that a new "investigation" was taking place)

    2. A picture of Kamran Faisal "hanging" in his room has surfaced which proves he "committed suicide" (read: "WAS SUICIDED"). Must be the first case in history where a guy hanging himself forgot to hang himself. He stood on the table with the noose around his neck and felt no need to jump/push the table away. Simply AMAZING! See for yourself and you will find how true Justice Javed Iqbal's findings were anf how honest and free CJ Iftikhar MC and other judges are (and why I think they are the ones who should be hung from the neck till dead):
    Source 1
    Source 2

    3. One thing that has always bothered me: Why is it that Kamran Faisal's body was taken away wrapped in a curtain from his room? Almost always they take away bodies wrapped in a body bag/sheets they bring with them. Why didn't they bother this time?

  13. Emily, thank you for putting this up where it can be shared with all and sundry. This is also a good way to demonstrate to the world that we are effectively second-class citizens. If parents made their diabetic or cancer-stricken children drink bleach in the hope that it would bring about a (mutually-desired, unlike in our case) cure, said parents would be in court doing a lot of explaining. That we even have to have articles like this in view of the public demonstrates that the law needs rewriting.
