Dysfunctional traffic signals are creating enormous problems for commuters in the capital while traffic wardens deployed on these signals have turned out to been ineffective in avoiding traffic jams.
Due to electricity load shedding, most of the signals in the city often remain dysfunctional. At some signals, wardens of the Islamabad traffic police (ITP) are deployed while no personnel have been deployed at a majority of traffic signals. Rehan Abbasi, a commuter, said long queues on traffic signals also cause inconvenience for ambulances because it is not possible for them to rush through traffic jams. Another commuter said it was not possible for one warden to control the dense flow of traffic and suggested deployment of at least three to four personnel at each signal.
