Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Member National Assembly (MNA) Dr Nafisa Shah has said that the PPP had rendered unprecedented sacrifices to restore democracy in the country, and despite all conspiracies hatched against the current setup, the government will complete its tenure.
While talking to media persons at Jillani House Khairpur on Wednesday, she said democracy would flourish with time, and dictators in any form would not be allowed to de-rail democracy at any cost.
She said the PPP was a party of the people and was not afraid of any long march, adding that the PPP had completed all arrangements to hold the general elections on time, even though some elements wanted to create unrest in the country in the name of electoral reforms.
Dr Nafisa further said that the PPP was a democratic party and it would not allow anybody to take the law into their own hands.
She also said that Dr Tahirul Qadri should push his agenda forward in a constitutional way in the forthcoming general elections. This “Long March” was no more than a conspiracy against democracy, she added.
Furthermore, she stated that all existing problems could be resolved in a democratic way, adding that Tahirul Qadri could not bring four million people out on the roads with his long march. She said that Tahirul Qadri should contest elections, and after entering the Parliament, he could bring reforms through a democratic process.
Moreover, the MNA said that democracy was the only solution for addressing the issues being faced by the country. The PPP government after coming into power was working to ensure the survival of democracy and had made a lot of sacrifices for the same cause. The present government had made the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) free and independent, she said.
She also said that media in Pakistan was independent and was playing a vital role in strengthening the democratic culture. She said that the present government believed in interacting with the media rather than trying to control it.
