The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is investigating sources of funding that has enabled Tehrik Minhajul Quran chief Dr Tahirul Qadri to lead a long march from Lahore to Islamabad and stage a sit-in that has entered its third day on Thursday, local media reported.
Qadri’s massive campaign promotion on print media, electronic media and other channels raised eyebrows in public and media after which an official investigation was instigated against him.
FIA has claimed that it has obtained critical information regarding the sources of funding received by Qadri and his TMQ.
Additional Director General FIA has been designated with the investigation who is collecting information from relevant organizations including State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and other authorities concerned with remitting money from other countries to Pakistan.
Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik has informed the Canadian High Commissioner Greg Giokas that might ask for Canada’s help in this regard.
