Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed, while talking to a delegation of the European Union (EU), said that Karachi holds immense importance in the region and the city has always been considered the backbone of national economy. The EU delegation was represented by Jose Luis, Sarah Ladbury and others. He said the basic infrastructure in Karachi was going through a fresh development phase and the youth were being provided with training opportunities in vocational and technical sectors to enable them to avail better job opportunities. All these measures were aimed at improving the image of Karachi and to clear the way for rapid progress and development, he added. The EU delegation which called on the KMC administrator in his office, said they were impressed by the rapid development of Karachi in a short period of time which would help raise the standard of life of common citizens besides providing new opportunities regarding progress and development.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Hussain said the development process was being pushed forward in Karachi despite the fact that conditions were unfavourable. He said promotion of educational and sports activities were essential for elimination of terrorism from the country. He further said that it was unfortunate that investors and traders were relocating their industries to other cities due to deteriorating law and order situation, adding that the citizens of Karachi were being deprived of job opportunities due to the menace of terrorism.
He also informed the delegation about the development projects currently underway in the metropolitan. He said that roads and highways were widened and properly carpeted to improve traffic flow, adding that the construction of flyovers and underpasses had also made the citizens lives convenient. He also said that the Circular Railway Project would soon be revived and other means of transport would be provided to bring further improvement in the overall transport system of the city.
