Representatives of human rights organisations, NGOs, civil society, lawyers, artists and a large number of students of various universities lit candles on stairs of the Punjab Assembly in favour of democracy. The students were carrying banners and placards inscribed with different slogans in favour of democracy. They also chanted slogans against any unconstitutional move to derail democracy. Former president of Supreme Court Bar Association Asma Jehangir, IA Rehman and Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Rana Mashood Ahmad also spoke on the occasion. They criticised the demands and sit-in by Dr Tahirul Qadri. “We want democracy in the country and we are trying to strengthen all institutions and democracy”, they added.
