The Supreme Court (SC) Tuesday ordered Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to arrest Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in rental power case along with 19 others and present them before the court on Wednesday.
As former minister for water and power, Ashraf is accused of receiving kickbacks in the rental power projects and various other scams. In addition to Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, other highly placed individuals likely to face charges in the wake of SC ruling include Liaqat Jatoi, Naveed Qamar, Shaukat Tareen and Waqar Masood. Immigration authorities deputed at all 24 airports of the country were directed to place the accused on Exit Control List (ECL). Earlier in March 2012, the court had directed National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to take actions against minsters involved in the case. Subsequently, the NAB had issued arrest warrants of 33 people including the prime minister.

The PM reacted to the developments by holding telephonic conversation with PML (N) Leader, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Pakhtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party leader, Mehmood Khan Achkzai, ANP leader, Mr Asfandyar Wali Khan, MQM leader, Altaf Hussain and PML (Q) leader, Chaudhry Shujat Hussain and discussed the prevalent political situation of the country.

The political leaders vowed to uphold the constitution and the democratic system. They said that “democracy was achieved in the country after great sacrifices and struggles and it will be defended at all costs. Any attempt to subvert the constitution, derail the democratic dispensation or adopt unconstitutional measures should be dealt with firmly”. The PM said that the government was exercising restraint, patience and tolerance, which should not be taken as a sign of weakness. Nobody will be allowed to impose his personal agenda”. It was agreed that the parliamentary parties should focus on the general elections under supervision of the Election commission.

Moreover, MQM has scheduled an emergency meeting of its central coordination committee to draft future strategies. Meanwhile commenting on the developments, PML-N MNA and senior journalist, Ayaz Ameer termed Rehman Malik as a minister of comedy. He said that contradictory statements of Rehman Malik had brought the parliament under an existential threat.

  1. No, the case was already sub judice and it was pretty much expected that the apex court will be giving some decision soon… in any case, I think it all has happened for good, the good of country of course

  3. This is too bad for Pakistan. How can SC left behind in making the News Headline these days. But no matter what may come – this Government and system will prevail.

  4. President Zardari must declare state of emergency in the country and suspend all political act ivies in the country immediately to avoid further bloodshed in Pakistan. The Chief Justice of Pakistan must also issue orders to arrest Qadri as he is tunning anti-state activities and tries to provoke sectarian problems as country cannot bear further loss.

    • Totally agree with you – Qadri has not break any law at the moment – but is working for the break-up of the entire system. ARREST HIM AND SEND BACK TO CANADA.

  5. What is the current status of pakistan in the world…? What our supreems wanted to do with the country n nation? All this ruine the country

  6. this is not the way to reduce the crimez… mr/justice where were you when zardRi was eating the country…. where are you when the parliment is becoming a political house….

  7. What a *s*t*u*p*i*d country (of over 180million) this is – where one Canadian national drop in with (25,000 well paid and well fed-protesters) in the Capital city and give ultimatum of few hours to an elected Government and warned of hanging them if they not comply him. Event like this can only happen in a *s*t*u*p*i*d country called PAKISTAN. – What a Wonderland for Terrorists.

    • People call us terrorists because they fear us, so what would you call a person who fears another person from so called s*t*u*p*i*d country called PAKISTAN.

      • @Raja – no one fears from any *s*t*u*p*i*d Pakistani – this is your illusion you people are living with day and night. This is a bank-rupt country, debited with billions of dollars, is running on aid from USA and with blessing of Iran and Saudi money. What you have is *b*u*l*s*h*i*t* only in shape of Altaf Hussain, Qadri, Zardari and none-the-less Iftikhar Chaudary.

      • Sorry to burst your bubble Raja but people don't fear Pakistani's,they just won't allow many to enter their countries and when they kill innocent people, they think you are stupid, barbaric and brain dead religious fanatics, they find you and send a drone after your a*s,some of these s*h*i**bags make all of us Pakistani's look bad around the world. So get a clue in life.

  8. What is happening in Pakistan…….. Everyone want to become hero here in Pakistan… Especially our CJP …………………… And qadri the biggest liar of the world. No doubt the criminal should be punished….. but this is not the right way to treat the executive of the country…..

    • Well Looky Looky What we have here…! MR. INNOCENT…! You named urslef a PAKISTANI and try to defend an EXCEUTIVE who has BLOODY gave us nothing except DATES … DATES & DATES…! Inshallah Zardarai is NEXT…! Keep Watching…! ALL FU@CK!N gave us B@LL SH!TT for the past 30years…! It's time for INQILAAAB…!

    • This is only country in the world where an accused ( by order of SC in its past order ) can become PM / President etc;

  9. We must not connect the decision of Supreme Court regarding arrest of the Prime Minister with the Long March. The CJ had nothing to do with Tahirul Qadri's speech as most would claim to give him the credit. Let the law take its course and Raja Ashraf decide what is correct based on morality and his future in this country is to resign!

  10. yapeee!!! lets put "Bhutto" deep down under the trench so that he would never dare to become "zinda" again!

  11. Pakistan is the country being run by cheap people. No one is sincere with the country. Her rulers are brutes who have no mercy for the people. We request them to quit the government. We don’t need their servises. We are fedup with them. Pls take pity on us nd leave the govt for better people. But i think honests lack in this nation. Up coming rulers maybe more brutal. What a pity???

  12. If PPP could pick any clean man from its party of million so what can they expect from SC and public.the most abused person was picked to irritate people and SC and result is facing humiliation in front of even weak or fake religious force of Qadri.

  13. PPP must be repenting now.Once Raja was found involved in Rental case corruption why he was elevated as PM. Zardari had so many good people to fill the slot.Thank God rule of lw is being applied to untouchables.

It is just a coincidence let us not mix it up with Qadri. If SC had announced judement a week before , they would have ben blamed, if after Qadr's sit down even then SC had to share the blame, now they done so they are being blamed Totally absurd.

Imagine out of 180 million people no body picked up courage to come so open for common man including great sonami due credit must be given to Qadri to have picked up courage. Those who dare always win

  14. No, the case was already sub judice and it was pretty much expected that the apex court will be giving some decision soon… in any case, I think it all has happened for good, the good of country of course

  15. pervaiz ashraf was purposefully made the prime minister because zardari knew fully well that he would be convicted of corruption and that would give ppp an excuse to gain people's sympathies for next election. Very shrewd move by zardari.
