Hearing the Balochistan law and order case on Monday, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said voices in Balochistan calling for handing over Quetta to the army should be heard. The Supreme Court also sought the notification of imposition of Governor’s Rule in Balochistan. The three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing in Balochistan law and order case on Monday. Balochistan Advocate General Amanullah Kanrani informed the bench that Governor’s Rule had been imposed in Balochistan. The CJ remarked that law enforcement agencies were blaming each other for the deteriorating law and order while thousands of people remain missing. “Since day one, the court has been raising the issue of basic rights in Balochistan,” he remarked. He added that the human rights situation had not improved in the province and neither had there been any progress in the matter. The CJ questioned why the perpetrators of Quetta and Mastung incidents had not been arrested yet. He reprimanded the advocate general, saying the authorities did not “want to arrest” people who were involved in such incidents. Adjourning the hearing of the case until January 29, the CJ sought a detailed report of the law and order in the province.
