Pakistan and Indian army local commanders are scheduled to hold talks on defusing tensions on the Line of Control (LoC) after a series of ceasefire violations that killed several soldiers last week in the worst outbreak of violence in a decade, Indian media quoted military officials as saying.
According to the sources, Indian military officials, Colonel Rajesh Kalia, a spokesman for the Indian Army’s Northern Command and another Indian Army spokesman Colonel Jagdeep Dahiya confirmed the meeting in Mendhar at 1 pm.
Skirmishes are common along the 740-km LoC despite a ceasefire that was agreed in 2003.
Last Sunday, a Pakistani soldier was killed in what Islamabad said was a cross-border raid mounted by the Indians. The Indian army denied any of its troops breached the control line, but said there had been an exchange of fire.
