General elections date more important than caretaker government: Senator

Senator Pervaiz Rashid on Monday said that announcement of the date of general elections is more important than announcing the caretaker setup.

Talking to journalists Raiwind, Senator Pervaiz Rashid said that after announcement of the date of elections, the government should announce caretaker prime minister in accordance with the constitution, with mutual consultation between the leader of the opposition and leader of the house. He said this step is the requirement of the constitution, which must be fulfilled in accordance with the provisions of the constitution.

Responding to a question, Rashid said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) believed in the policy of consultation. He said the Leader of the Opposition Chaudhry Nisar had even consulted the political parties which were not part of the parliament during the process of nomination of members of Election Commission. He said the opposition leader would carry out consultations for nominating a caretaker prime minister.

In response to another question, Rashid said that the opinion of PML-N President Nawaz Sharif had not been included in the promulgation of Governor Rule in Balochistan. He said Nawaz Sharif was only informed about promulgation of Governor Rule in the province. He expressed a neutral stance on the Governor Rule.
