Citizens of Lahore would sigh in relief as CNG stations decided to resume supply of gas on Thursday after a two-week shut-down, Pakistan Today has learnt.
Sources of Sui Northern Gas Company said the decision of re-opening CNG stations of Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, Multan, Gujranawala and Gujrat had been taken in a meeting of the Gas Load Management Committee.
The source also said that the low gas prices were unlikely to affect the common man and the real beneficiaries were either transporters or owners of luxury vehicles.
“Limiting the use of CNG to vehicles with a horsepower of 1000cc would help save this precious natural resource. Once a decision is made, gas may be used for power generation in industrial sectors,” the source said.
The SNGPL source said the mismanagement in the distribution of gas is causing great difficulties.
“The gas reserves are diminishing and the demand increasing. Supply is limited, whereas the demand increases due to the unbearable cold,” he said.
All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) Chairman Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha asked the government to issue orders for opening CNG filling stations within two days.
“If the government fails to take a decision, we will have no other option but to open our outlets without the consent of the authorities,” he said.
“The CNG sector was affecting millions of commuters. Immediate steps need be taken for making distribution of gas transparent,” said APCNGA chairman. Paracha said CNG station owners would hold a demonstration to protest against the ”unjustified distribution of gas and the unfair price adjustment formula”.
