Abbas Sharif, the youngest brother of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif, passed away on Friday after being electrocuted at his home in Raiwind. He was 58. He was buried at the Jatti Umra graveyard on Friday evening.
According to details, Abbas went to the bathroom before Friday prayers but did not come out. His absence was noticed by his servants, who informed Nawaz who was also present. They broke the door open to find Abbas lying on the floor unconscious.
He was taken to Sharif Medical City Hospital where he died while being provided first aid.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif also reached the hospital soon after being informed.
A large number of PML-N activists and leader started visiting Raiwind to express their condolences.
Abbas was the youngest among the siblings and was married to Sabiha Abbas. He was MNA in 1993, but after that he dissociated himself from active politics. He looked after the business of the Sharif family. He is survived by a widow, two sons and two daughters.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, leaders of various political parties including JI chief Munawar Hassan, ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan, PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, PTI chief Imran Khan, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad expressed grief over the death of Abbas and prayed for the departed soul. Qul of late Abbas Sharif will be held at Jatti Umra at 1pm on Sunday (tomorrow).
Shujat Hussain, Pervaiz Elahi, Manzoor Watto, Arif Nizami, Jahanjir Badar, Tanveer Ashraf Qaria, Mustaq Awan, Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Iqbal, Khawaj Asif, Zulfiqar Khosa, Bilal Yasin, Main Amir Mahmood, Dost Muhammad Khosa, Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Rana Maqbol, Yousaf Salluhudin, Punjab Chief Secretary Nasir Mahmood Khosa, Lahore DCO Noorullah Mangel, Lahore Commissioner Jawad Rafiq, Sohail Waraich, Rana Shamain, Punjab IG and Lahore DIG Rai Tahir were among those who attended the funeral.
