The Civil Lines Police on Friday arrested a school principal for writing an extortion note to Punjab Governor Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmud.
Per details, Mateen Shah, principal of a school in Baghbanpura, had written a letter to Governor Mahmud in which he had demanded Rs 5 million on the 10th of every month and threatened to kill Mahmud in case of non-compliance.
Governor Mahmud shared the threat with Acting Punjab IG Khan Baig who immediately ordered the Additional IG Special Branch and CCPO Aslam Tareen to trace the perpetrators. After initial investigation, the police were able to track down Mateen, who said that he had written the letter to implicate his rivals as “they had defrauded him of Rs 0.25 million”.
Civil Lines SHO Abid Rashid told Pakistan Today that in the letter, Mateen had claimed to be a member of a terrorist group while during interrogation he admitted that he wanted to take revenge from Tahir Aslam and Gohar Hassan who, he claimed, had sold him a piece of land on fake documents and were now refusing to refund the money.
