Pakistani women, especially from KP and tribal areas have played a remarkable role in fighting terrorism, as they are the direct victims of it.
“Fighting terrorists in a country is not a trivial task,” said National Assembly Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi at the inaugural session of the `National Women’s Peace Conference’ on Thursday.
He said the US has been unable to combat militant activity in Afghanistan despite possessing the latest technology and resources. “How can they blame Pakistan for not succeeding in rooting out the menace?” he asked.
The conference was organised by PAIMAN Alumni trust in collaboration with UNWOMEN to empower women to help their communities to overcome the emotional and social repercussions of violent extremism.
Kundi said terrorism has exposed militants for what they truly are, and people from different walks of life are now committed to maintain peace, freedom of speech and freedom of thought.
He said the government could not afford to force a super power to end drone attacks in the country.
He lauded the female parliamentarians who presented a number of bills on women’s rights in the National Assembly.
He further stated that people were aware of ground realities and political leaders who followed the foreign agenda would soon be exposed.
“This government has restored the 1973 Constitution in its original form and people know the government is sincere to this nation,” Kundi said.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Social Sector Shahnaz Wazir Ali said this government is aware of the plight of women in strife-torn areas, and the need for moderating extremism as women end up suffering the most during extremism and insurgency.
She said Pakistani women were creative and courageous leaders who were striving to alter their country’s dangerous trajectory and rebuilding lives shattered in the wake of extremism.
She cited the example of many courageous female leaders who had changed the fate of their community and set them on a journey of hope, harmony and prosperity.
