The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on Thursday said that the United States is working with local partners to improve the quality of basic education in Pakistan by better preparing teachers for the classroom. In a statement, USAID said that for the purpose of improving education in Pakistan, Teacher Education Project organised the National Interchange on Teacher Recruitment Rules.
The event furthered the dialogue about the revision of recruitment rules for elementary teachers throughout the country with senior officials from the provincial and area governments, representatives from education departments, and teacher education apex bodies.
“The United States Government is fully committed to supporting Pakistan in its efforts to having better prepared teachers,” said Muhammad Tariq Khan, USAID Senior Education Advisor. “The revision of these recruitment rules will ensure qualified instructors will enter the teaching workforce.”
Motivating and rewarding qualified teachers was an important way to ensure that the children of Pakistan had access to the best possible education, he said.
Teacher Education Project has provided technical assistance to provincial governments, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas.
This project helped revise existing recruitment rules of elementary school teachers and allocate higher basic pay scales.
