Sikandar Jatoi arrested from SC premises

The Sindh Police on Thursday arrested Sikandar Jatoi, father of Shahrukh Jatoi from the Supreme Court in connection with Shahzeb Khan murder case.
Sikandar, father of the main accused in the murder case, appeared in the court to direct police not to arrest him. The court, however, rejected his plea. After which, the police arrested him from the court premises. He is one of the nominated accused in Shahzeb murder case.
The Sindh Police shifted the accused to the Secretariat Police Station and later took him to Karachi after completion of legal formalities.
A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhry, asked Sikandar Jatoi to cooperate with the police. The court also gave six days to the Sindh Police to arrest Sharukh Jatoi, who is said to be in the UAE.
Abdul Hafeez Peerzada, counsel for Jatoi, appeared before the bench and contended that his client was being harassed by the police and his cement factory and TV channel were closed down.
He also said that Sikandar Jatoi obtained a one-day bail from the Lahore High Court with a commitment that he would appear before the Supreme Court.
Upon this, the court asked him to approach the proper forum for getting remedy in this regard. It also pointed out that the SC had not issued notice for his appearance, he has to join police investigation and besides making this observation, the court could not give any further relief to Jatoi.
The CJP clarified that they had taken notice in this matter because obstacles were being created during the proceedings.
Meanwhile, the court was informed that the Interpol had confirmed that Shahrukh was abroad since December 27, 2012. Sindh Police DIG Shahid Hasnat said that Shahrukh Jatoi has been traced in Dubai and efforts were being made to bring him back to Pakistan, and therefore, he requested the court to give some time.
Upon this, the CJP said law enforcers had shown negligence in this case. Justice Chaudhry also questioned that why action was not initiated against the DSP concerned. Later, the hearing was adjourned until January 16.
Shahzeb Khan was killed on December 25 last year in Defence area, Karachi, after he had a scuffle with Shahrukh Jatoi and Siraj Talpur.
