Long march to go ahead, with or without MQM

Undeterred by the backtracking of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Tehreek Minhajul Quran (TMQ) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri on Friday vowed to go ahead with his proposed long march to Islamabad.
Addressing a press conference, Qadri said that the long march would commence as per schedule and “there should be no confusion about it”.
He said that the government had lost moral, legal and constitutional authority to govern the country after Thursday’s string of bombings in Quetta and Swat which killed more than 116 people.
He praised the Supreme Court (SC) for dismissing the petitions filed against the TMQ long march.
Earlier in the day, a senior TMQ official, Rahiq Abbasi, had told a private TV channel that the MQM’s withdrawal from the long march would not affect the TMQ schedule.
In a twist to the high drama which began after Qadri’s announcement on December 23 to march on Islamabad which was backed by the MQM, the party announced that it would not be participating in the event “due to security concerns”.
