Gilani files petition against FIA

The Son of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Abdul Qadir Gilani filed a petition against Investigation officer (IO) for the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) Hussain Asghar.

Gilani filed the petition in the Supreme Court (SC) claiming that Hussain had been harassing him with reference to the Hajj scandal case in which Gilani is implicated.

The court issued a notice and demanded a reply from the FIA by 21st January.

A three member bench lead by Chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry stated that the petition was to be dealt with separately and had nothing to do with the Hajj scandal case.

The former prime minister’s son was implicated in the Hajj corruption case when Pirzada Syed Imran Ahmed Shah of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) accused Gilani of receiving a bullet proof Land Cruiser from then Director General (Hajj) Rao Shakeel Ahmed.

Gilani alleged that the IO instead of focusing on the Hajj scandal case was focusing efforts on his Bachelors degree. The court stated therefore that the IO should pay attention to the Hajj scandal and nothing else.
