Sunny day ends foggy spell

A sunny day brought to an end the long foggy spell in the country on Wednesday, with slightly raising temperature and bringing normalcy to routine life.
Almost full attendance was observed in schools, colleges, universities and offices after many days.
The dense foggy spell had disrupted routine life in most parts of the country. Mercury had dropped below zero degrees Celsius in Rawalpindi and Islamabad and -2 degrees Celsius in plain areas of Punjab while minimum temperature recorded in Skardu was -17C. A Met Office official said that during last five days the plain areas of the country were engulfed by dense fog which prolonged from 16 to 18 hours a day.
He said for the first time, the day temperature was dropped to 7 degrees Celsius in the plain areas of Punjab.
β€œIn the past, the day time temperature remained 20-22 degrees Celsius in the plain areas of the province during the winter season, but it had dropped to 7degrees Celsius breaking the record of low temperature of last 50 years.”
He said that shallow fog was expected in plain areas of the country during next two to three days and the foggy conditions would subside with a light rain spell on January 11-12 (Friday night or Saturday morning) in Northern Areas and upper parts of the country, including Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Rawalpindi Division.
He said that more rain was expected after January 20 in different parts of the country while another rainy spell was forecast during the next month.
