Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) Akhtar Buland Rana on Wednesday declared illegal the appointment of two retired government officials as principal officer and finance adviser. During a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), the AGP suddenly diverted from the agenda, stating that everything needs to come on record. PAC Nadeem Afzal tried to stop the AGP but he insisted upon making things clear. Subsequently, Rana said that Wajid Rana retired from the post of finance secretary and was made principal officer of the same ministry. In addition, the responsibility of finance secretary was also given to Wajid. Moreover, Rana Asad Ameen was appointed as finance adviser after his retirement, Akhtar Rana maintained, adding that both offices did not exist at all and despite the fact, the government made these appointments. The AGP pinpointed that not principal secretary of the PM, but the premier himself issued orders in this regard. He also said that rules and regulations do not allow taking such steps. Afterwards, PAC asked the government to present report on re-appointment of the two retired officers in one week.
