The two-day International Writers’ Conference on ‘Literature and Democracy’ will commence at the Auditorium of National Library on Thursday. Around 650 renowned intellectuals and literary figures from across the country, and 25 overseas writers are expected to attend the conference, said a press release on Tuesday. Delegations will start arriving on Wednesday and a cultural show will be arranged the same day, in which famous artists, musicians and dancers will perform at the Pakistan National Council of Arts. The conference’s closing session will be held on Friday. Eminent writers like Intezar Hussain, Bano Qudsia, Mustansir Hussain Tararr, Fakher Zaman, Anwar Shaur, Fehmeeda Riaz, Ata-ul- Qasmi, Zohira Nigah, Anwar Sadeed, Amjad Islam Amjad, Shakeel Adil Zada, Peerzada Qasim, Dr Khursheed Rizvi and Afzal Ahsan Randhwa will read out articles on the occasion. Academy of Letters Chairman Abdul Hameed said the objective of the conference was to bring writers from different areas and languages, together. The conference will help promote democratic values and spread a message of peace, he said.
