SCBA to organise all-parties conference

The Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBA) will hold an all parties conference titled, “Democratic System, guarantee for Pakistan’s dignity and survival”, on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference, SCBAP President Mian Israrul Haq said leaders of key political parties and lawyers’ representatives would address the conference.
“Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira, PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and lawyers’ representatives will address the second session whereas PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and various leaders of the Jamaat-i-Islami will address the first session of the conference,” he added.
He said the country had reached a juncture where all people were deeply concerned.
“Political leaders, judiciary and other institutions have an understanding that democracy should prevail. Judiciary has already made it clear that it would not endorse any unconstitutional step,” he added.
He said that for the first time a democratic setup was completing its constitutional tenure and now the general elections should be held on time. To a question regarding declaring Dr Tahirul Qadri’s party unconstitutional, he said Terhreek-i-Minhajul Quran was not a registered party.
“The demand for reforms in the electoral system is a good omen but it is not an appropriate time to hold a long march; it may cause chaos in the country,” he said.
