Due to a lack of doctors, non-qualified dispensers have among angels of death for patients in basic health centres in rural and urban areas.
Qualified doctors have not been appointed in most government run dispensaries and health centres, and dispensers have started practicing as medical officers, putting lives at risk.
Over 192 health centres are currently functioning in rural and urban localities of Rawalpindi under the aegis of the health department.
They include 91 basic heath centres, 11 rural health centres, five government- rural and 78 municipal dispensaries. These dispensaries are aimed at providing health facilities to citizens at the Mohalla level. Over Rs 100 million have been spent so far in connection with the up-gradation of these dispensaries and basic health centre, but no improvement has been witnessed in terms of medical facilities due to the non-induction of medical officers.
Mid wives have been carrying out medical check-ups of patients in 72 centres. They prescribe medicines even though their education level is matric or middle standard. In a dispensary operating in Chamman Zar Colony, no doctor or LHV have been appointed and two midwives work there as medical officers.
Citizens have demanded the immediate appointment of qualified doctors and lady doctors in these dispensaries and health centre, and have requested the government to shut them instead of leaving them at the mercy of non-qualified dispensers and mid wives.

  1. In a corrupt setup efficiency is at the lowest point so to hide the misdeeds minimum number of personnel is preferred. See the shortage of judges in high n lower courts.
